South Bend, a Place for Summer
On April 6, 1910, the South Bend Tribune ran the following Society note:
“A family of considerable means living in the east is seeking a large house in which to spend the three best months of the summer in South Bend. South Bend has never became noted as a summer resort, but the possibilities seem to be rather large if the matter should be taken up and pushed. A young woman of this family visited friends in South Bend and became so infatuated with the city that her interest has been communicated to other members and now they seek a modern house furnished, which can be taken for three months. So far nothing of a satisfactory character has been discovered, but they have not given up hopes and propose to spend a portion of their summer in South Bend.”
Here are forty photographs from the days I spent in South Bend this summer.
