Friday Night In Bloom
Last night, I stopped by two gallery openings in downtown South Bend—En Bloom by Terrible Tony at the new Bunbury Gallery, and a series of portraits by Jonathan Randall Grant at Highland Studio + Gallery.
My visits were brief (early flight this morning), but they woke me up.
Every few months, someone offers a new estimation—or judgment—on the prospects of South Bend’s artistic community. I’m not here to add another opinion, only to note the heartening fact: there are seemingly enough gallery spaces in the city to host simultaneous, well-attended openings for two bonafide, beloved painters. It felt less like a moment, and more like a rhythm.
Basking in the quiet vitality of a place pronounced dead.
p.s. LangLab is celebrating its 15-year anniversary on Friday, May 16. Maybe I’ll see you there. [details]
